We now offer pet
Micro-chipping

The price per pet is $20.00

Micro-chipping is the most effective way to relocate your companion animal should they go missing. While collars and tags can be removed, a microchip is a permanent identification.

Developed by a veterinarian, the AVIDŽ microchip is safe, permanent and takes only seconds to administer. The tiny injectable "chip" contains a one-of-a-kind identification number and is recognized worldwide.

A special scanner is used to read the microchip through the skin of the animal. The animal feels nothing as the chip's number quickly appears in the scanner's viewing window. With a phone call, the registered chip can be traced back to the purchaser if necessary.

How we have already helped to get a DOG home

By coincidence, on Microchip day May 5, 2007...

We received a call from Steve, whom had been recently given a sweet beagle, Scooby, by a friend.  Being a responsible pet owner, Steve took Scooby, to his veterinarian to get his vaccinations and initial examination.  The vet's office hearing that the animal was once a stray scanned Scooby for a microchip. Sure enough there was a tiny chip embedded under Scooby's skin between the shoulder blades that identified him as once being adopted from our small shelter here in Columbia City.  Steve offered to keep the dog, while we tried to locate the original owner.  When we called Susie and let her know that Scooby had been located and was now in Fort Wayne, she was elated!  Seems Susie had tried everything to find her dog back in December 2006, when he disappeared from her back yard.  She had lost hope of finding him. Six months had now passed.  We here at WC shelter were able to help Susie, Steve and Scooby get in touch with one another.

It was a joyful day for all.  Steve was happy too to be able to have played a hand in helping Scooby get to his loving owner Susie.  Without the microchip this would not have been possible.  Scooby had no collar left when he was originally found roaming.  ONLY by scanning him was he identifiable, as the Beagle the woman had lost hope on ever finding.
